Curbside Television Recycling Collection

E-waste pile

Beginning in January 2015 New York State law has prohibited disposing of certain electronics as trash. These items must be recycled. The Town of Huntington has implemented a curbside recycling program for oversized televisions covered by the NYS Electronic Equipment Recycling and Reuse Act.

How To Participate:

Simply call the Town’s Refuse Department at 631-446-3656 to schedule an appointment for curbside collection of televisions that are 27" or larger. Please note that curbside collection is only for large televisions, all smaller electronic items must be taken to the drop off site or a retail take back recycling program.

You should place the television(s) at the curb before 6:00 AM on your scheduled appointment date.

Who Can Participate:

This program is an added service available to any resident in the Town’s Refuse Collection District that pays Refuse District taxes. More plainly, if you are a resident and the Town or its contractors pick up your trash, then you can participate.

Residents that are not included in the Town’s Refuse Collection District (This includes incorporated villages, some gated communities, apartments, condominiums and co-ops with commercial dumpster service) are not eligible to participate in this program. These residents may continue to use the e-waste drop off program at the Town’s Recycling Center. For more information call 631-427-6377.

Small electric appliances (e.g.: hair dryers, curling irons, toasters, toaster ovens, mixers, slow cookers, clothes irons, et al.) are not acceptable for recycling in this program. However,  these small metal appliances can be dropped off at the scrap metal bin at the Recycling Center.

In order to protect against identity theft, residents are strongly advised to erase or remove and destroy the hard drives of any computers or laptops that are to be recycled. To see a video with instructions on how to remove and destroy your hard drive play the embedded video.
