Curbside Electronics Recycling

Have an old television or computer you want to get rid of? Just pick up the phone and call. The Town will come to your home and collect it!

E-waste pile

Beginning in January 2015 New York State law has prohibited disposing of certain electronics as trash. These items must be recycled. The Town of Huntington has implemented a curbside recycling program for electronic devices (e-waste) covered by the NYS Electronic Equipment Recycling and Reuse Act.

How To Participate:

Use Huntington @ Your Service or simply call the Town’s Refuse Department at 631-351-3239 to schedule an appointment for curbside collection of e-waste covered by the law. Please note that minimum amounts are required for curbside collection. Please contact us to see if you qualify for a curbside pickup.

You should place the e-waste at the curb before 6:00 AM on your scheduled appointment date.

In order to maximize fuel economy for collection vehicles there are minimum amounts required to schedule a curbside collection of e-waste. Televisions can be collected alone, but must be larger than 20 inches in screen diameter for collection. Alternatively there must be five or more individual covered e-waste items out for pickup in order to schedule an e-waste collection appointment. Please note that while cell phones are not covered by the e-waste law they may be included as part of a larger e-waste collection.

Who Can Participate:

This program is an added service available to any resident in the Town’s Refuse Collection District that pays Refuse District taxes. More plainly, if you are a resident and the Town or its contractors pick up your trash, then you can participate.

Residents that are not included in the Town’s Refuse Collection District (This includes incorporated villages, some gated communities, apartments, condominiums and co-ops with commercial dumpster service) are not eligible to participate in this program. These residents may continue to use the e-waste drop off program at the Town’s Recycling Center. For more information call 631-427-6377.
