Traffic Signal Box Projects (Town-Sponsored)

Traffic signal boxes that have been transformed by artists into works of public art are documented in this section of the Public Art Inventory. 

Use the following link to download a map showing the locations of the first eleven Signal Box projects installed in and around Huntington Village, supported, in part, by the Huntington Village Business Improvement District (BID):  Downloadable Huntington Village Signal Box Projects Map

Installations of additional Signal Box projects are currently underway in both Huntington Village and Huntington Station.  Photos and information about these new installations will be added as they are completed.  Location maps including these new locations will be added upon completion of all planned projects for the year.

Description:  A drawing of the distinctive facades of the Huntington Historical Society's Sewing & Trade School Building transforms this signal box into a miniature reproduction of this historic building. 

Markings/Inscriptions:  Embedded QR codes enable smart phones with the appropriate app to access webpages with information on the artist, this project, the Town's Public Art Initiative, the Sewing & Trade School Building, and the Huntington Historical Society.

Description:  A trompe l'oeil painting on all sides of the Signal Box transforms it into a brightly striped reusable shopping bag full of groceries.

 Title:  The Healing When the Sky Opens Up

Description:  Water lilies float on the surface of a placid blue pond with ripples formed by falling drops of water, while rays of a deeper blue radiate from the largest water lily on the center panel facing New York Avenue.

Description:  Each panel displays "totems" made of different arrangements of contrasting pebbles on a pebbled beach. The center panel shows three different pebble arrows pointing up and down in alternation.  The side panels show circular groupings of pebbles, with the left panel grouping made of black pebbles and the right panel grouping made of white pebbles.
