COVID-19 UPDATE:

Due Date: June 1, 2020.

Recognizing the financial hardship that the COVID-19 crisis has presented to our residents, the Town has requested an extension of the deadline to pay the 2nd half property tax obligation.  The authority to extend the deadline is not within the Town's power.  To date, the extension has not been approved.  The County asks that people financially impacted by COVID-19 call 311.

    

PAYMENT OPTIONS

  • Tax Payment Drive-Through  at 295 New York Ave. & Gerard St., Huntington Village (the old Chase building).  8:30am-4:30pm Monday-Friday. Special late hours June 1, 2020 8:30am-7:00pm.  No credit card payments at this location, except Discover Card payments, which can be left for processing later.
  • Pay Taxes Online or by Phone - click "Pay Online" tab to the left for info.
  • Residents may utilize the Black Drop Box outside the main entrance to Town Hall labeled “Tax Payments".   NO CASH.
  • Pay through the Mail.  We accept US postmark for timeliness of payment.

The New Tax Year begins December 1, 2019 through November 30, 2020.  Tax Bills will be mailed out the second week of December.  If you do not receive a bill by Dec. 20, 2019,  please contact us for another copy or you can access it on our website.  

The First half tax is due by Jan. 10, 2020.   Second half tax is due by May 31, 2020.  Since May 31st falls on a Sunday, the due date is extended until Monday, June 1, 2020.  Once you receive your bill, you  may pay at anytime before these due dates.  You may pay your bill online through Official Payments (please note their fees).  See the "Pay Online"  tab on our website for the link and more information.  * If paying by E-Ck,  please be sure to enter your CURRENT YEAR Bill Number and your correct routing and account numbers.

How property taxes are apportioned and collected are the functions of the Town Assessor and the Receiver of Taxes.

The Assessor determines the taxable value of all real property within the Town in a fair and equitable manner and maintains the Town Assessment Roll, the list valuing the more than 72,500 parcels within the Town and its incorporated villages. The Town Assessment Roll determines how the annual Tax Warrant – the amount to be collected in property taxes for the Town, Suffolk County, villages, school districts and other taxing jurisdictions – is apportioned.

The Receiver of Taxes sends out the tax bills, based on the Tax Warrant and Assessment Roll, and collects the money paid in taxes. The Tax Receiver is also responsible for the collection of Dix Hills Water District rents. The Tax Receiver maintains tax rolls to include change of ownership and a listing of taxes in arrears and calculates taxes on apportionments and erroneous assessments. The office sends out tax bills once a year. The first half payment is due January 10th, and the second half payment is due May 31st.

The Town Board appoints the Assessor. The Receiver of Taxes is elected.
