Please note that the Office of the Receiver of Taxes is not a policy making office, rather, it provides an administrative function. We do not determine the tax rate or assessment. It is our responsibility to collect and distribute the taxes. Our actions are undertaken pursuant to New York State Real Property Tax Law and the Suffolk County Tax Act.
Please be aware that we collect the taxes for not just the Town of Huntington but also for the County and the school districts in the Town along with other taxing districts. As part of the budgeting process, public hearings are held for county, school, and town budgets. Some districts such as schools and libraries also hold annual votes to approve their budget.
STAR is a school tax relief plan. There are two types of STAR: Basic STAR and Enhanced STAR. For more information on STAR, please contact the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance by calling 518-457-2036.
