Petrone, Berland, Cook Help Kick Off Safe Boating Week

Huntington Supervisor Frank P. Petrone and Council Members Susan A. Berland and Eugene Cook helped kick off Huntington Safe Boating Week on Saturday May 17 as they mingled with boaters at the second annual Nautical Market and Fair at Mill Dam Park.

The Town has joined with the Greater Huntington Council of Yacht and Boating Clubs, the Coast Guard Auxiliary and the Neptune Sail and Power Squadron to sponsor Safe Boating Week, which aims to promote safe recreational boating through education and awareness. Events during the week include safe boating seminars, courtesy vessel safety inspections and the Nautical Market and Fair. The fair featured booths staffed by various yacht clubs and boating organizations, as well as ones that offered all types of nautical gear – new and used – for sale. The event also included live musical performances by the rock group Just Cause and the Coast Guard Auxiliary Band.

During a brief program, Jackie Martin, commodore of the Greater Huntington Council, thanked the Town Board for co-sponsoring the week, followed by remarks from Supervisor Petrone and Council Members Berland and Cook.
