Town of Huntington - Highlights

11/17/2014 - Petrone, Berland Mark Opening of Long Island Cares Food Bank

Huntington Station – Huntington Supervisor Frank P. Petrone and Councilwoman Susan A. Berland joined colleagues from state and county government November 14 in marking the opening of Long Island Cares’ newest food bank, at 220 Broadway.

The Harry Chapin Food Bank and Humanitarian Center is the organization’s third community-based program on Long Island and will provide emergency food, household supplies, personal care products and community support services to residents experiencing hunger food insecurity, or both. Long Island Cares has also relocated its government affairs and social advocacy programs to the center, as well as its veterans outreach services and Vets Work employment project.

In his remarks during a brief ceremony, both Supervisor Petrone and Councilwoman Berland congratulated Long Island Cares CEO Paule Pachter and the organization for choosing a location that is close to those who might need its services. The Supervisor also noted that the center’s presence helped reaffirm the Town’s commitment to ensure that as Huntington Station revitalization continues, the Town will not forget about meeting existing residents’ needs.
