Town of Huntington - Highlights

3/6/2015 - Long Island Federation of Labor Honors Petrone
Melville -- The Long Island Federation of Labor honored Huntington Supervisor Frank P. Petrone at its annual awards reception March 5, citing the Supervisor’s commitment to the labor movement and to the community.

“The Long Island labor movement has been particularly impressed with the Supervisor’s commitment to union jobs in Huntington’s redevelopment plan for Huntington Station. He has emphasized cooperation and engagement among Town government, the community and the labor movement. The results are significant. He has strengthened the Town’s apprenticeship requirements within the Community Benefits Agreement for Huntington Station renewal to create a well-trained workforce, ensure public safety and establish long lasting careers in construction and other fields for the residents of Huntington’s communities,” the Federation wrote about the Supervisor in its event journal.

In introducing Supervisor Petrone, John Durso, president of the Long Island Federation, called him “one of the best public servants anywhere.”

Supervisor Petrone, in his remarks, thanked the Long Island Federation for the honor and spoke of the crucial role organized labor has played in Long Island’s development and in improving workers’ lives. The Supervisor noted that all of Long Island benefits from the quality work done by union members and the work done by unions in the community. “A strong union is a strong Long Island,” he said.

Supervisor Petrone was one of three persons the Long Island Federation honored. Also recognized were Stephen Flanagan, business manager for Construction and General Laborers Local 66 and Suzy Ballantyne, former political director for the New York State AFL-CIO. The reception was held at the Hilton Long Island.
