8/26/2014 - Petrone Recognizes Ironman Triathlon Competitor
At the August 19 Huntington Town Board meeting, Supervisor Frank P. Petrone recognized Heather Ciccone for completing the 2014 Ironman Lake Placid, which was held July 27 in the upstate community.

Heather was among 2,300 persons who completed the competition, which entails three events: a 2.4-mile swim in Mirror Lake, a 112-mile bicycle ride from Lake Placid to upper Jay and a 26.2-mile run from Lake Placid to Wilmington and back. Held annually since 1998, Lake Placid is the longest-running Ironman triathlon in North America apart from the Ironman World championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.

A Huntington resident, Heather works full time as an Assistant Administrative Coordinator for Eastern Suffolk BOCES in the Student Data Services Department. She became interested in triathlons after her Aunt Kathy passed away with bouts of cancer and has used competing in Long Island triathlons to raise money to help fight leukemia and lymphoma.

In presenting a proclamation to Heather, Supervisor Petrone noted how in taking on the challenge of the Lake Placid competition, she pushed herself to find time each week to put in many hours of training while balancing work and family responsibilities and contending with several knee issues.
