Town of Huntington, NY - News Details

6/21/2018 - Lupinacci Announces New AED Deployment Across Town Facilities to Protect Public Health

Huntington – The Town of Huntington has replaced 37 outdated Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs) with new AEDs from Cardiac Science fitted with the latest technology to greatly improve the chances of surviving a sudden cardiac arrest.

"The Town has upgraded 37 AEDs throughout Town facilities, replacing old units with AEDs equipped with the latest technology, an improvement which greatly improves the chances of surviving a cardiac arrest," said Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci. "Thank you to Dr. Paul Maccaro, Cardiac Science and Town Senior Safety Officer Kenneth Lavoie for your efforts in this expedient deployment."

The AEDs are placed in locations where quick response is improved for the public and for Town employees, replacing some machines that dated back to 2002. They are distributed according to the Chapter 552 of the 1998 NYS Public Access Defibrillation laws, under the collaboration with Dr. Paul Maccaro, Chief of Cardiology Huntington Hospital.

The AEDs from Cardiac Science are the latest technological advances in the design of these machines with a pad to inform the user verbally whether they are compressing deep enough, too deep, fast enough or to slow down. These machines guide the user through every step of a rescue so that the chances of the patient surviving are greatly improved.

Cardiac Science develops, manufactures, and markets automated external defibrillators (AEDs), related parts and accessories. The company also offers Rescue Ready® Services, a comprehensive portfolio of training, maintenance, and support services for AED customers.
