Huntington Station – Supervisor Chad
A. Lupinacci attended the Opening Word Ceremony at St. Hugh of Lincoln Church
in Huntington Station on Thursday, June 7.
"The Opening Word Program
time-and-time-again proves to be an invaluable community program which helps
immigrant women to learn English and increase their professional
trajectory," said Supervisor Lupinacci. "Each year, I join this
incredible program to recognize the women, our new citizens, and the volunteer
teachers who are so selfless in their assistance. This program shows the good
that can be done when a community welcomes diversity of culture, language, and
heritage, and in turn provides a forum for all to gather and learn
together."
The Opening Word is a literacy
program designed to teach the English Language and job readiness skills to
immigrant women on Long Island. Opening Word ultimately aims to help immigrant
women achieve success in the workforce and in the community.
