Huntington – Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci directed that
flags on all Town of Huntington buildings be flown at half-staff on Monday,
December 3, to honor the 41st President of the United States of America, George
H.W. Bush, who passed away late Friday evening. Councilman Ed Smyth called for
a moment of silence at the December 4 Town Board Meeting.
“Let us recognize President George H.W. Bush for his love
of country and his life of public service,” said Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci,
who posted a photo of the letter President George H.W. Bush left for
President-elect Bill Clinton on Inauguration Day 1993 on his social media
channels, stating: “as part of a tradition passed from president to president,
the content of the letter that outgoing President George H.W. Bush left for
President-elect Bill Clinton in January 1993 demonstrates the love of country
this gentleman and great lifelong public servant held in his heart. Rest in
peace 41.”
Councilman Ed Smyth called for a moment of silence to
honor the 41st President at the close of Tuesday’s Town Board Meeting: “Today,
the nation mourns the passing of George H.W. Bush. A veteran of WWII, President
Bush served his country since his youth. He dedicated more than 40 years of his
life to public service as a member of Congress, Ambassador to the UN, Director
of the CIA, Vice President, and President. He will be sorely missed.”
