Northport – Supervisor Chad A.
Lupinacci invites mobility-challenged golfers to attend a free clinic presented
by PGA Professional Tom Herzog on how to use the Town’s wheelchair-adaptive
golf cart, or Paramobile, on Wednesday, June 26, from 11 AM to 1 PM at Crab
Meadow Golf Course, 220 Waterside Road, Northport.
Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci
welcomed all golfers to attend and learn how to use the wheelchair-adaptive golf
cart: “The Paramobile at Crab Meadow Golf Course provides for the enjoyment of
the most beautiful 18-hole public golf course on Long Island and this free
clinic will help make sure our mobility-challenged golfers, residents and
visitors get the most out of the great recreational facilities the Town has to
offer.”
All individuals wishing to use the
Paramobile must attend a clinic or contact Tom Herzog for a lesson prior to
using the machine on the golf course. Reserve a spot at the free clinic by
contacting Fred Bifulco in the Town’s Department of Parks and Recreation: FBifulco@HuntingtonNY.gov or (631)
351-2873.
The Long Island Chapter of the Stand Up and Play Foundation donated a Paramobile to
the Town of Huntington in 2017. The Paramobile enables a mobility-challenged
person to be strapped in securely and then lifted to a standing position to
swing the golf club from a natural stance.
The Paramobile was designed for
individuals with various neurological and muscular disabilities, including but
not limited to, amputees, stroke victims, paraplegics, quadriplegics,
individuals with war injuries, brain trauma, MS, CP and Parkinsons. The
therapeutic benefits of the golf game for physically limited players are
immense. It stimulates the metabolism, stretches the muscles, reduces
spasticity and enhances joint mobility.
