7/18/2019 - Lupinacci Announces Extended Spray Park, Dix Hills Pool Hours for Weekend Heat Wave

Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci announced extended hours at the Sgt. Paul Tuozzolo Memorial Spray Park at Elwood Park and the Dix Hills Park Pool, plus options for keeping cool at Town facilities, for the anticipated weekend heat wave.

 

Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci stated: “In these severe summer temperatures, I encourage all of our residents to stay cool, indoors with your air conditioning on, and stay hydrated. Please check on elderly neighbors and keep pets indoors. The Town has facilities where you can keep cool and we have extended hours at our Dix Hills Park Pool and the Sgt. Paul Tuozzolo Memorial Spray Park at Elwood Park for this Saturday and Sunday, weather-permitting.”

Sgt. Paul Tuozzolo Memorial Spray Park

 

Extended hours at the Sgt. Paul Tuozzolo Memorial Spray Park at Elwood Park on Cuba Hill Road are as follows, weather-permitting:

 

  • Friday, July 19: 11 AM to 8 PM (Usual hours due to camp programming at the park)
  • Saturday, July 20: 9 AM to 8 PM
  • Sunday, July 21: 9 AM to 8 PM

 

The spray park will be waiving the Recreation Photo ID Card requirement for Town residents only for the weekend heat wave (residents must show photo ID proving residence to enter spray pad).

 

Official spray park hours are 11 AM to 8 PM, 7 days a week, children with special needs may use the park exclusively from 10 AM to 11 AM on Tuesdays and Thursdays, joined by the general public from 11 AM to 8 PM.

 

The spray park is typically open to residents with Resident Recreation Photo ID Cards (children under 13 years old will be able to use the spray park if accompanying parent/guardian shows a Resident Recreation Photo ID Card – exception only for those who have Picnic Permits for that day), which may be purchased at Town Hall in the Parks and Recreation Department (Room 103) Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, call (631) 351-3089 for information. Recreation ID Cards may also be purchased at the Dix Hills Ice Rink, call for hours, (631) 462-5883. Non-residents may only enter the spray park if they are accompanied by a resident with a Resident Recreation Photo ID Card.

Dix Hills Park Pool

 

Extended hours at the Dix Hills Park Pool, located at 575 Vanderbilt Parkway, Dix Hills are as follows:

 

  • Friday, July 19: 12:30 PM-8 PM (Usual hours due to scheduled swimming lessons at the pool)
  • Saturday, July 20: 10 AM-8 PM
  • Sunday, July 21: 10 AM-8 PM

 

Dix Hills Pool is an outdoor facility of 50-meters in length, equipped with a half-meter diving board, two 1-meter diving boards and a large deck area for sunning. The facility is also equipped with locker rooms, a playground area, kiddie pool and food concession.

 

The Dix Hills Pool facility is completely handicapped accessible. (Non-residents accompanied by a Town resident may use the pool by paying the daily Non-ID Card holder fee.)

 

  • Pool Admission Fees (with Recreation Photo ID Card): Children (under 13) - $5.50; Teens (13 - 17) - $6.00; Adults (18 and older) - $7.00; Sr. Citizen / Disabled - $4.50.

     

  • Pool Admission Fee (without Recreation Photo ID Card): $15.00 per person.

     

  • Pool Membership: Family Membership - $250/season; Individual Membership - $100/season; Sr. Citizen/Disabled - $50/season.

All Town Beaches will be open 8 AM to 8 PM (usual hours) during the weekend heat wave.

A beach permit is required to park a vehicle in the municipal parking lots at the beaches:

 

  • Resident Seasonal Beach Permit: $40/season. Beach permit available to residents only. Vehicle registration and driver’s license required.  Permit must be affixed by the attendant to the vehicle.

     

  • Senior Citizen Seasonal Beach Permit: FREE beach permit available to senior residents, 60 years of age or older. Vehicle registration and driver's license required. Must be affixed by the attendant to the vehicle. Available only at: Centerport Beach, Crab Meadow Beach, Quentin Sammis/West Neck Beach.

     

  • Firefighter / Rescue Seasonal Beach Permit: FREE! Resident volunteer firefighter or resident volunteer rescue squad personnel are eligible to receive this permit complimentary. Vehicle registration, driver's license is required. These permits are issued at Town Hall in the Department of Parks & Recreation, Monday thru Friday, 9am - 4pm.

     

  • Daily Beach Permits are sold at all beaches (exceptions apply):

o   Resident: $30/day per vehicle with identification

o   Non-Resident: $75/day per vehicle

 

  • All buses visiting any of the beaches must have a permit issued by the Parks and Recreation Office.

 

Contact the Main Beach Office located at Crab Meadow Beach at (631) 261-7574 seven days a week from 9 AM to 3 PM from Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day to inquire if the eight (8) Town beaches are open or closed for bathing as per the County of Suffolk Department of Health Services. You may also contact the Suffolk County Bathing Beach Water Quality Hotline for beach closings throughout Suffolk County at (631) 852-5822.
