Hands on Huntington NNORC

Hands on Huntington is a Neighborhood Naturally Occurring Retirement Commu-nity (NNORC) that helps people aged 60 and over age in place. NNORC staff coordinates services and community resources that help seniors maintain their quality of life and independence in their home.  Hands on Huntington is funded through the New York State Office of Aging and supported by the Town of Huntington, The Suffolk Y JCC and community partners.  This program is geographically selective to serve the community of Greenlawn, East Northport and Huntington.  Hands On Huntington (NNORC) Staff consists of (left-right): Social Workers, Joyce Little, LMSW and Sarah Sussman, MSW, and Bunny Karalitzky, RN MS.

 Some examples of how the social worker can help:

  • Provide information regarding entitlement eligibility.
  • Assist with entitlement, property tax reduction and/or transportation applications.
  • Provide information about health and prescription insurance options.
  • Assist with Health Care Proxies.
  • Provides information about community, county and state services.

Some examples of how the registered nurse can help:

  • Provide information, education about your medical issues, new diagnosis and medications you are taking.
  • Monitor health issues including Blood Pressure Monitoring.
  • Provide resources and referrals for needed services.
  • Set up a visiting MD to care for your medical needs.
  • Advocate for you to improve patient – doctor communication.
  • Eligible to complete and submit a HART bus application.

Some examples of how you can get involved in Hands on Huntington NNORC:

  • Attend and join the Advisory Board.
  • Join the Newsletter Committee & Fundraising Committee.
  • Attend NNORC education (Health Chat) and social recreation programs.
