Lupinacci & Cuthbertson Announce 2020-Style Outdoor Holiday Decorating Contest

Six Categories, Including New Kid-Decorated Category for Decorators Up to 17 Years of Age, to be Judged by Huntington Beautification Council

Huntington – Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci and Councilman Mark Cuthbertson announced their 2020-Style Outdoor Holiday Decorating Contest, sponsored by Long Islander News, where a new “Kid-Decorated” category has been added and winners will be announced in the December 24th edition of the newspaper.

“We wanted to make 2020 a little more fun for everyone so we’ve added a category for displays decorated entirely by kids,” said Supervisor Lupinacci. “Grown up decorators should be on notice because kids are our resident holiday experts and they tend to have the best holiday cheer!”

“I’m looking forward to seeing how creative the displays will be this year,” said Councilman Cuthbertson. “People are already decorating, I think there will be some stiff competition this year!”

The 2020 Holiday Decorating Contest will focus on outdoor decorations only in order for judging to safely occur outside in light of the COVID-19 crisis. Categories include:

  • Best Residential
  • Best Commercial
  • Best Christmas Theme
  • Best Hanukkah Theme
  • Best Kwanzaa Theme
  • Best Kid-Decorated

Winners will be featured in the December 24th edition of Long Islander News and appear on the Town’s TV channels Optimum 18, FIOS 38 and on Town social media.

Residents and businesses wishing to enter the contest must submit their entries and photos on the Town website by the December 6 deadline.

Entrants with questions may call Supervisor Lupinacci’s office at (631) 351-3030 or Councilman Cuthbertson’s office at (631) 351-3317.

Lupinacci and Cuthbertson have enlisted the assistance of the Huntington Beautification Council to visit finalists’ properties (exterior only) to judge entries on evenings between Monday, December 7 and Monday, December 14. A Town videographer will also shoot footage of the winning entries for promotion on the Town website, social media and TV channels.

Winners will be notified ahead of the December 24 edition of Long Islander News, where photos of winning entries will be published along with honorable mentions.
