Town-sponsored event brings together residents 75 and older who have lived in Huntington for 50 years or more

Woodbury – More than 300 long-time Huntington seniors took part October 28 in the Second Annual Senior Reunion Luncheon, at which the Town of Huntington brought together residents who were 75 years of age or older and who had lived in the Town for at least a half century.
Organized by Councilwoman Tracey A. Edwards, the luncheon was aimed at bringing people together without some triggering event such as a family function, so they could meet old acquaintances and share reminiscences. The luncheon carried the theme “Memories of Huntington,” and featured large photos of scenes of Huntington from the 1950s and 1960s.
“I hope all of you look at the pictures,” Councilwoman Edwards told the crowd. “They really tell much of the contributions you have made over the years in the Town of Huntington.” In her remarks, she mentioned one person who had signed up to attend, but who had passed away the day before. “That is another reason why it is so important for us to do this,” she said. “We want to make sure that we take some time to get to see each other and celebrate all of the memories.”
Councilwoman Edwards was joined by Councilwoman Susan Berland, Town Clerk Jo-Ann Raia, State. Sen.Carl Marcellino and Assemb. Andrew Raia in welcoming the attendees to the Crest Hollow Country Club, where the event was held. Fr. Steven Donnelly of St. Patrick’s Church in Huntington delivered the blessing of the food.
Councilwoman Edwards thanked the committee that helped put together the event: Barbara Allen, Dolores Thompson, Helene Edwards, Paul Johnson and Jo Ann Veit. She also thanked the Crest Hollow, which on short notice found room to hold the luncheon after so many people responded that the originally scheduled location, the Moose Lodge in Greenlawn, could not accommodate the group, and Breslin Realty, which agreed to become the sponsor.
The Town recorded the event, including interviews with some of the attendees, and will be putting together a program for broadcast on the Town’s government access television channel (18 Optimum, 38 FiOS).
