2/8/2017 - Petrone Declares Snow Emergency, Effective 12:01 a.m. February 9
Huntington Supervisor Frank P. Petrone declared an official snow emergency, effective at 12:01 a.m. February 9, and cancelled all activities and scheduled meetings at Town facilities.

“All of the forecasts indicate that this storm will include a significant snowfall, with the snow falling at a considerable rate for a good part of the day Thursday,” Supervisor Petrone said. “Residents should stay off the roads, and make sure to park their cars off the streets to facilitate plowing and access for emergency vehicles. “

Under a snow emergency, the Supervisor has the power to close roads, appropriate necessary equipment from all sources and make necessary purchases without following the usual procedures. The declaration also makes available to the Highway Department Town equipment and personnel to assist Highway Department crews.

The cancelled activities include the Zoning Board of Appeals meeting and Parking Violations Court, both scheduled for the evening; the Village Green Senior Center and Senior Beach House at Centerport Beach; all activities at the Dix Hills Ice Rink, Parks Department programs at local schools and at Coindre Hall; and all Youth Bureau programs.

After initially scheduling a delayed Town Hall opening, Supervisor Petrone decided at 8 a.m. to close Town Hall for the day.

Thursday residential trash collection is cancelled. Commercial pickups are still scheduled for businesses in Huntington Village and Huntington Station that have evening curbside collection. But the businesses should check the Town’s website, Facebook page or Twitter feed for updates. UPDATE AT 12:45 P.M. : Commercial pickups canceled.

All HART Bus service service is cancelled. That includes paratransit and fixed route service.

Residents can also contact the Highway Department through the home page of the Town’s website, www.huntingtonny.gov, or by email at highway@huntingtonny.gov.

Supervisor Petrone advised residents to check the Town’s website, Facebook page, Twitter feed or government access channels 18 (Cablevision) and 38 (FIOS) for updates.
