Huntington Station – The Town of
Huntington has hired a contractor to replace damaged roadway joints on North
Parking Garage roof deck at the LIRR Huntington Train Station starting Tuesday,
November 6, and is encouraging commuters to use overflow lots on the west side
of New York Avenue while the project is underway.
Damaged roadway joints in the North
Parking Garage are allowing water to leak into the level below, necessitating
their replacement. The signs for the project were posted a few weeks ago
at the two entries to the garage.
“This is one of many safety
improvements the Town has in the works for the Huntington train station,” said
Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci. “This is in addition to our newly announced plans
to renovate the north and south parking lots, replace the elevator in the North
Parking Garage and repair the Town-maintained footbridge over the tracks to the
North Parking Garage, thanks to the $11.35 million dollars in grant funding for
infrastructure improvements the State recently approved for the Town.”
On Friday, October 26, Supervisor
Lupinacci, Senator John J. Flanagan and Senator Carl L. Marcellino announced
over $11 million dollars in State and Municipal Facilities Program (SAM) Grant
funding approved for parking infrastructure improvements at the LIRR Cold
Spring Harbor Train Station and the LIRR Huntington Train Station.
The start date for the joint
replacement project is Tuesday, November 6, and the project is expected to last
approximately two weeks, during which 42 parking stalls on the roof level of
the North Parking Garage will be closed.
Commuters may use overflow Municipal
Parking Lots 18 and 22 on the west side of New York Avenue.
