Huntington Station –
Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci and Councilwoman Joan Cergol joined Source the
Station, SEPA Mujer, and graduates from SEPA Mujer’s first Leadership and Civic
Engagement Training program at the Huntington Opportunity Resource Center on
Sunday, January 13.
“Congratulations to the
first seven women to graduate from SEPA Mujer's Leadership and Civic Engagement
Training program,” said Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci. “As an educator, I
commend your drive to continue learning for not only self-improvement but for
the betterment of our community.”
“I am inspired by the
first class of graduates from SEPA Mujer’s Leadership 101 Training program that
empowers Latina women,” said Councilwoman Joan Cergol. “These women have
demonstrated their interest in being civic minded and active members of our
Town. I look forward to others in our community who will pursue this program
and become involved.”
The leadership and civic
engagement training took place at the Huntington Library Station Branch and
encompassed learning about the history of immigration, human rights, US
politics and government (from federal to local levels), the education system,
public speaking and advocacy, press relations, leadership and self-empowerment.
SEPA Mujer is a non-profit
organization with over 20 years of service to Latinas throughout Long Island.
In 2018, Source the Station partnered with SEPA Mujer to bring a chapter to
Huntington Station, NY.
