On Tuesday, June 4th, Huntington
Town Clerk Jo-Ann Raia was recognized on the floors of the New York State
Assembly and Senate by Assemblyman Andrew Raia, 12th Assembly District
and Senator James Gaughran, 5th Senate District, for her years of
service to the Town of Huntington and as a Woman of Distinction for the 5th
Senate District. Over the past four decades, Ms. Raia has served the Town in
her capacity as Town Clerk, Secretary to the Town Board, Registrar of Vital
Statistics, and Marriage Officer. Both Assemblyman Raia and Senator Gaughran
honored Ms. Raia by introducing her in the well of the Assembly and Senate,
detailing her accomplishments and service, and remarking on her time as a
staple of an ever-changing community.
Upon receiving a boisterous response from
those present on the floor and in gallery, Ms. Raia commented on this
heart-warming experience as she prepares to retire at the end of her term in
December. “My role as Town Clerk has been the opportunity of a lifetime.
Between hard fought campaigns, introduction to new members of the Town Board
after each election, to conversations with residents and the joining of couples
in marriage, I have much to be proud of. After 38 years as Town Clerk, I feel
fulfilled in my goals and look toward the future, enjoying a much deserved
retirement,” commented Ms. Raia.
