Public
Hearing Set for September 18 Planning Board Meeting at 6 PM
Huntington – The Town of Huntington
has published the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for The Preserve
at Indian Hills after the Planning Board, at its August 21 meeting, scheduled a
public hearing on the document for its Wednesday, September 18, 2019 meeting at
6:00 PM, also setting the public review and comment period to end Friday,
October 18, 2019.
The Draft
Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for The Preserve at Indian Hills,
comprised of multiple files, can be found on the Town’s website under the
Planning & Environment Department page, under Site Specific Plans, Reports
& Studies (select Senior Living Projects or Residential Projects) or the
files can be viewed directly at this link: http://www.huntingtonny.gov/indian-hills-deis-july2019
Those wishing to speak at the public
hearing may do so by signing up to speak upon arrival to Town Hall for the 6:00
PM Planning Board meeting on September 18. Individuals who cannot attend the
meeting have until Friday, October 18, 2019 to submit comments on the DEIS via

or by postal mail addressed to:

The resolution accepting the DEIS
for public review was originally set to end the public review period on October
2; newly appointed Planning Board Vice Chairperson Mara Manin Amendola offered
an amendment from the dais extending the public review period by 16 days to end
on October 18, a measure which passed unanimously.
New York State State Environmental
Quality Review Act (SEQRA) requires the public hearing to be set at least 15
days after the DEIS is accepted; the full public review and comment period must
be set to end at least 30 days after acceptance.
A revised Draft Environmental Impact
Statement (DEIS) for The Preserve at Indian Hills was submitted to the Planning
Department on July 23 with information requested by the Planning Department
that had been missing from a previous version of the document submitted on
April 17.
Town Planning Department staff had
requested additional information identified in the Project Scoping that was not
adequately covered in the proposed DEIS submitted on April 17. The additional
information sought was primarily in the areas of natural environmental
resources, water and air resources, ecological resources and community-related
character and services.
