11/1/2021 - Statement from Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci on Temporary Lockdown of Town Facilities
"Due
to an active Suffolk County Police Department investigation into a
shooting in the vicinity of Heckscher Park this morning, out of an
abundance of caution and in accordance with Town policy, Town Hall, the
Village Green/Senior Center and Heckscher Park were closed and on
lockdown from approximately 9:30am to 12:15pm. The safety of our
residents and employees is our number one priority. Our Department of
Public Safety was on scene this morning to keep the area clear for the
Police Department to conduct their investigation. As of 12:15pm, the
lockdown at Town Hall, the Village Green/Senior Center and Heckscher
Park has been lifted and all are now open to the public. Huntington is a
safe community, this was an isolated incident, and thankfully there
were no reported injuries. The Suffolk County Police Department has the
full cooperation of the Town as they continue their investigation."
