3/14/2022 - Town to Resume LIRR Huntington South Parking Lot Renovation as Weather Conditions Permit

Huntington Station – The Town of Huntington will resume work on the South Parking Lot renovation at the LIRR Huntington Train Station when temperatures reach the required levels for at least three (3) consecutive days necessary to complete the project.

“There are many improvements underway at our flagship commuter parking facility,” said Supervisor Ed Smyth. “After this overhaul of the South Parking Lot is complete, we will have added more parking, better lighting, and made critical infrastructure repairs to ensure public safety.”

The remaining work at the LIRR South Parking Lot, which began in September 2021, is primarily related to paving and is weather-dependent. The Town is awaiting dry weather conditions with temperatures of 50 degrees or higher for at least three (3) consecutive days. Once work resumes, the project is estimated to be complete in approximately 3-4 weeks.

The Town’s South Parking Lot project, when complete, will have 29 new parking spots, bringing the previous 224-space lot to 253 spaces, a new accessible sidewalk on east side of Fairground Avenue, drainage improvements, lighting improvements, resurfacing with new asphalt paving, two-way traffic flow down each aisle, new plantings around the lot, reconstruction of the southern retaining wall, in addition to EV-ready infrastructure.
