Town of Huntington, NY - News Details

7/4/2026 - Fourth of July Boating Speed Restrictions

The Town of Huntington would like to advise residents of crucial information pertaining to boating safety ahead of this holiday weekend.

While we look forward to welcoming residents and visitors alike to our public spaces, and especially our waterways, to celebrate with loved ones, we would also like for everyone to stay safe. To accommodate an influx of what we expect to be up to 1000 boats to the harbor and ensure boater safety, temporary speed restrictions will be in place on July 4 from 8:30pm-11:30pm. Reducing boating speed to 5mph in these restriction areas will help to prevent wakes that can create unsafe conditions and harm smaller boats.

The Harbormaster's Office and the SCPD Marine Bureau will be on duty to ensure boater safety and perform checks to ensure that boats are compliant with safety measures and standards. Throwable life rings are available at all docks and ramps in town. Please see the attached map for details.

To view this year's 4th of July weekend boating safety press conference, please tune in to Channel 18 on Optimum or Channel 38 on Verizon. Enjoy your holiday, and remember to be safe!
