CONSTRUCTION PERMITS

Extended Construction Permits

Construction permits expiring from March 12, 2020 through July 31, 2020 have been extended for a period of six months from the original expiration date, except in cases where the Department of Engineering revokes a previously issued permit due to Building Code violations.

OUTDOOR DINING

Sidewalk Outdoor Dining Permit (Town Road Right-of-Way)

Establishments that wish to offer temporary outdoor dining on the sidewalk of a Town road must submit an application with the proper requested documentation to Steve Kiewra, Building Permits Coordinator (skiewra@huntingtonny.gov) for timely review:

Applications may also be submitted to: Building Permits Division, Huntington Town Hall (Room 115), 100 Main Street, Huntington, NY 11743, phone (631) 351-2821, fax (631) 351-3132. The Town is waiving the $200 permit application fee for this process.

Sidewalk Outdoor Dining Permit (State Road Right-of-Way)

Different regulations govern temporary outdoor dining on sidewalks of State roads, such as Main Street/25A and New York Avenue. Establishments that wish to offer temporary outdoor dining on the sidewalk of a State road must use the following guidance and submit completed application forms, along with the proper documentation, to M.T. Vijay Vijayendran (M.T.Vijay.Vijayendran@dot.ny.gov) for timely review:

Town Municipal Lot Outdoor Dining Permit

The Town has created an application process for establishments that wish to offer temporary outdoor dining in a Town municipal parking lot contiguous to the primary establishment. Submit an application with the proper documentation to the Planning Department (planning@huntingtonny.gov) for timely review:

On-Premises Outdoor Dining Permit (ZBA)

The Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) has created an application process for establishments that wish to offer temporary on-premises outdoor dining for private property. Submit an application with the proper documentation to the Planning Department (planning@huntingtonny.gov) for timely review:

Applications may also be submitted to: Town of Huntington, Zoning Board of Appeals, 100 Main Street, Room 212, Huntington, NY 11743, phone (631) 351-3196, fax (631) 351-3257.

Applications submitted and reviewed by the Planning Department will be presented to the Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) for a decision at their weekly meetings. The Town is waiving multiple fees for this process.

Portable propane outdoor heating appliance permit

The Town Board has temporarily waived all operational permit fees related to securing an operational permit for portable propane outdoor heating appliances in connection with commercial outdoor dining permits from October 20, 2020 through the expiration of the State's Emergency Declaration or March 31, 2021, whichever occurs first.

Proper permit applications, with the required documentation, will continue to be required before any liquified petroleum gas-fired portable outdoor heating appliances are operational; storage and operation must be in compliance at all times with the 2020 New York State Fire Code. Submit an application with the proper documentation to the Fire Marshal's Office for timely review:

OUTDOOR RETAIL/SIDEWALK SALES

Outdoor Retail/Sidewalk Sales (Town Right-of-Way)

The Town has created a process allowing merchants to operate on the public sidewalk of a Town road in front of their store. Submit a completed certification form to the Town Attorney's office (TownAttorney@huntingtonny.gov) for timely review:

Certifications may also be submitted to: Town of Huntington, Office of the Town Attorney, 100 Main Street, Huntington, NY 11743, phone (631) 351-3042, fax (631) 351-3032.

The new, temporary process simply requires certification from merchants that such activity will not obstruct the passage of at least two (2) individuals walking side-by-side along that sidewalk; typically the process requires Town Board approval.

FITNESS CLASSES IN TOWN PARKS

Fitness facilities may conduct fitness classes and instruction on Town property by temporary renting space in a Town park. Fitness facilities and professionals who wish to operate in a Town park should submit a completed application and proper documentation to ParksandRec@huntingtonny.gov to ensure timely review:

RESERVING MUNICIPAL PARKING IN FRONT OF YOUR BUSINESS

The temporary parking permit program in the Huntington Village Business District allows small businesses to reserve up to three metered parking spaces in front of their establishments to facilitate curbside pick-up and delivery.
