Huntington Station – Access to the
easternmost pedestrian bridge from the parking garages and lots at the
Huntington LIRR Train Station will remain closed until the bridge is replaced
by the MTA Long Island Rail Road (LIRR).
“Closure of the Town’s access points
to this bridge will remain in place until it is replaced,” said Supervisor Chad
A. Lupinacci.
The MTA LIRR has advised the Town
that they are moving ahead with plans to demolish and reconstruct the
pedestrian bridge later this year. The easternmost pedestrian bridge and the
platforms beneath it are property of the MTA LIRR, which has installed
high-impact netting under the bridge to protect pedestrians, the platforms, and
the tracks beneath it.
The Town’s Engineering Services
Department has been in communication with the MTA LIRR and has recommended
expediting the demolition phase of the bridge replacement contract.
On October 18, 2019, the Town of
Huntington closed off access to the easternmost pedestrian bridge connecting
the north and south parking garages at the LIRR Huntington Train Station after
a visual Engineering Condition Inspection Report recommended the east bridge be
closed to the public.
The Town is continuing its
communications with the MTA LIRR and will notify residents of additional
information, especially related to construction scheduling, as it becomes
available.
