Important Dates on the Assessment Calendar

2026 Exemption Applications:

Keep Watch for Renewal Applications coming in October for the 2026 Tax Bill!

DEADLINE FOR ALL EXEMPTION APPLICATIONS IS March 1st 2026

Please do not be late or you will receive a denial.

 

March 1 (Taxable Status Date) 

All property is valued as of its condition and status on March 1st of the year.  

You must file all exemption applications with the Assessor’s office by the “Taxable Status Date” of March 1 in order for the exemption to be applied to the following December's tax bill.  The only exception to this is when "Taxable Status Date" falls on a weekend. Then it is due by the following Monday.  

Please mail your application or hand deliver it to: Town Assessor’s Office in Room 100 at Town Hall, 100 Main Street, Huntington, NY 11743.

May 1 (Tentative Town Assessment Roll Established) 

The Town's tentative Assessment Roll is established and made available for public inspection at the Assessor's Office. 

3rd Tuesday in May (Grievance Day)  

The deadline to file an official written complaint challenging your property’s assessed valuation is always the third Tuesday in the month of May. The booklet “How to File a Complaint on your Assessment” is available at the Assessor’s Office after April 1st

Property Tax Year 

The official Property Tax year is from December 1 - November 30. For more information, contact the New York State Office of Real Property Tax Services
