Payment Instructions

Responsibility of Property Owners

 The tax laws of Suffolk County require that property taxes be paid on time.  
• By law, timely payment is the taxpayer's responsibility whether or not a tax bill is received.
 The property owner is liable for all penalties and interest on late payments.

Due Dates 

 First-Half taxes are due by  January 10, 2024. 
 Second-Half taxes are due by  May 31, 2024.  
 Property owners with an AGED Senior Low Income Exemption or Enhanced STAR Exemption printed and deducted directly on their tax bill  have until  Thursday, June 6, 2024 to pay their Second-Half taxes.     Please Note:   Those receiving Enhanced STAR as a check directly from New York State -  must pay by May 31, 2024.
 Partial payment of $200 plus appropriate penalty or interest will be accepted.    
 Additional interest of 1% per month will be calculated on the remaining balance. 
 Additional penalty of 5% is added after May 31st.

Payment Options

  • Taxes must be paid in US funds.....cash, check, money order, E-check, credit card, subject to collections.

  • When Paying by Check  please make all checks payable to Jillian GuthmanReceiver of Taxes.  Be sure your check is dated and the amount in numbers matches the amount in words.  Sign your check and include a daytime phone number on the back of your check, which will enable us to contact you if there is a problem with your check.
  •  Checks, E-Checks or credit card payments returned for any reason will cancel the tax payment.  Returned items are not redeposited.  A $20.00 charge applies to any item returned. 

In Person:

  • Hours   9:00am - 4:00pm   Monday - Friday  (see special hours and holiday closings below)
  • Bring your entire bill
  • Visa Debit, All Major Credit Cards, Cash, Check & Money Order. Convenience Fees charged for debit and credit card payments.

Online:

  •  E-check, Credit Card or Debit Card with the processing company, see information and Fees on the Pay Online  page.
  •  When paying with your own bank's Online Banking, please allow at least 5-7 business days (or as otherwise stated by your bank) for your bank to process and mail us a paper check.

Town Hall Drop Box:

  •    You may leave your payment in an envelope addressed to Jillian Guthman (no stamp needed) in the black box labeled "Tax Payments Only".  It is located outside of Town Hall in the rear parking lot, next to the covered walkway.  If you would like a receipt, enclose your entire bill; if not, just enclose the correct stub. 

Mail:

  •  When paying by mail and you want a Receipt, send the entire Bill with your payment.  If no receipt is needed, just tear off and enclose the #1 Stub for first half (due January) or the #2 Stub for second half (due May).

  •  Mail payment to:

 * Payments must have a US Postmark on or before the due date to be accepted without penalty. 

Phone:

  •  Call 1-800-272-9829 (ACI/Official Payments) to make an E-check or credit card payment.  Please note Fees.  See information on the  Pay Online  page or payment instruction sheet that came with your bill.

   Late Payments:   after May 31st

Late Payments must include proper penalty and/or interest. Please see "Interest and Penalty Calculation" for more information. Checks dated after the last date of Town collection (May 31) will be turned over to the Suffolk County Comptroller for calculation of interest and penalty.

Town Hall Tax Service Hours 

• Tax Payment Hours:      9:00am - 4:00pm   Monday - Friday 
• General Office Hours:   8:00am - 5:30pm   Monday - Friday        
• Special Late Hours:  May 31st only  (9:00am - 7:00pm)  After 7:00 pm on May 31st-  you may drop property tax payments in the BLACK DROP BOX labeled "TAX PAYMENTS" that is located on the edge of the Town Hall parking lot next to the covered entrance walkway.

Tax Receiver's Office is Closed: Saturdays, Sundays and Legal Holidays (Dec 25 & 26,  Jan 1 & 15,  Feb 19, and May 27, 2024).
