Youth Programs

Giving Huntington’s youth a voice by supervising the Huntington Youth Council (HYC), an organization comprised of students from each of the nine public high schools in the Town of Huntington. They meet monthly to discuss issues that affect the youth of our community and to plan events that engage their peers in local issues. The Huntington Youth Council has raised thousands of dollars for local charities in the Town of Huntington through events such as the semi-annual Sports Swap at the Dix Hills Ice Rink.

Providing services for at-risk youth by co-sponsoring legislation to secure funding from the Suffolk County Youth Bureau for the C.A.S.T. (Communities and Schools Together) program, which targets at-risk youth in the Huntington and South Huntington school districts, providing them and their families with intensive case management services to prevent their becoming involved in gangs and gang violence.

Recognizing Huntington’s rising thespians by co-sponsoring the annual Hunting-Tony Awards, an evening dedicated to celebrating the talent and devotion of students who participate in high school theater productions within the Town of Huntington. A panel of volunteer judges attends play and musical productions produced by all nine public high schools within the Town of Huntington to determine the winners of a wide variety of categories.

Co-sponsoring legislation to secure funding from the New York State Education Department for the Summer Food Service Program to be made available to participants who meet the income eligibility criteria attending Project Play/St. John’s Camp.

Securing funding from the Suffolk County Health Department for the provision of drug treatment, alcohol programs and prevention services and alternatives for youth services through the Town’s Youth Bureau.
