Debris Pickup Areas and Information

Highway Department

  Debris Pickup Areas

The Town of Huntington Highway Department will complete its first round of picking up debris left behind from the June 30th storm from across 800 miles of Town roads this week (July 15th – 19th), after which we will begin a second and final pass through the Town to collect storm-related material.

Once a Highway Department or contractor’s truck has been down a road the second time, any remaining debris will be hauled away by the resident’s weekly scheduled curbside refuse carter.**

To date, the Town has picked up more than 20,000 cubic yards of storm debris.

We will begin on our second round of debris pickup, starting on the northern end of Eatons Neck and work south. The Town of Huntington Highway Department will be providing a daily list of areas that will be posted on the Town of Huntington website, and will continue to update as work progresses. Overall, we are going from the Eastern Town border and heading west to Deer Park Avenue / 231 as we move south.

**To comply with the Town’s Curbside Trash/Yard Waste Pickup Program, the branches should be bundled and tied, and have a weight per bundle less than 50 lbs. The maximum size for any bundle of branches is 2’ x 2’ x 4’. Small branches and twigs placed in a refuse container must not protrude more than 12 inches over the rim of the container. If properly tied and bundled, these yard waste items will be picked up by your carting company in accordance with your regular yard waste collection schedule which is noted on the calendar that was mailed to you at the beginning of the year. All residents should be aware that this debris will be manually loaded by refuse workers into the truck, so it is important for worker safety not to exceed the 50 pound weight limit per bag or bundle of brush. Additionally, piles of debris and large tree limbs cannot be collected by garbage trucks.
