Plan & Prepare

In a disaster, it can take time to mobilize assistance. It is important to be prepared and have your own individual Family Emergency Response Plan and a GO-KIT ready in case you have to evacuate or look after your family until emergency services can get through. Always have a battery-operated radio, flashlight and extra batteries available.

The Town's "Emergency Preparedness Handbook" offers a list of items to have in your evacuation GO-KIT and tips for setting up a Family Emergency Response Plan. The tips in this book are designed for response to hurricanes, but are useful for other types of emergencies when normal services are disrupted.

Remember, if an emergency occurs, listen and pay attentions to directions from emergency personnel and local public safety officials.
